Recently I received the ESV Family Devotional Bible to review. The short sweet – It’s pretty neat!
It has 130 Topical Devotions averaging about two pages each. It has the usual fun colorful maps in the back for you and your kids. They range from The Land of Israel in the New Testament to Places Paul Visited to the Kingdom of Saul, David and Solomon and more.
What can I say about the actual contents? It is an ESV Bible. If you have an ESV Bible already, you may or may not want this one. If you have kids to read to you would like this one. The devotions are easily understood and come with questions to prompt good conversation about the topics.
My 9 year old daughter did find more typos then I did in the first four studies however. That was interesting 🙂
So in order to give it a fair go, we decided to pick random numbers from 1 to 130 each night at dinner and read the stories. Again, the stories and questions encouraged some good conversation with my family of five.
Overall I would say it is a worth while copy to own if you are raising children or are a new believer, or even just feel you want to simplify your devotions for a while. And unlike the ESV Men’s study Bible that I reviewed a while back – this bible is much easier to read.
