Glen Campbell, I’ll Be Me – Review

Glen Campbell, I'll be me

This last week I was offered the opportunity to review a prerelease copy of I’ll Be Me – the tale of Glen Campbell.

This from the provider:

The film features those who know and love Glen, including Bruce Springsteen, Bill Clinton, The Edge, Paul McCartney, Jay Leno, Vince Gill, Jimmy Webb, Blake Shelton, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Steve Martin, Chad Smith and Taylor Swift among many others. Rare vintage footage and extraordinary new performances of Glen’s most beloved hits immerse this moving cinematic account in the overwhelming talent of this humble family man. With joy and a tireless sense of humor, Glen and his family live each moment in the present while preparing for the future, all while playing their music to sold out venues on a star spangled voyage spanning the country from Carnegie Hall to the Hollywood Bowl.

I have to say it was great to get some insight into the life of such a great country star.  I learned a few things I hadn’t known about him but most of all I really loved the way the movie portrayed him during his “Goodbye Tour” – In True Color – In Real Life.  It was exciting to see.

The movie well made and you will get drawn into the story in the first couple minutes.  It was especially fun to listen to some old time hits.  Like many people who suffer from Alzheimer’s, Glen’s family had the hardest role to play during this time.  His wife Kim is forced to endure him forgetting who she is from time to time and forgetting his kids.

What is really interesting is seeing how performing on stage helps him to focus and bring back the memories.  I was reminded of Zig Ziglar’s last few years of life as he suffered from short term memory loss due to a fall.  Both of their sons and daughters ended up touring with them to keep them focused and on fire at what they did best.

Anyway – I highly recommend the movie.  If you are interested in getting the 5 song EP soundtrack from the film, leave a comment below of your fondest memory of Glen Campbell music in your life.  I will pick one at random to have the EP sent to.

See the movie when it comes out – it is well worth your time.

My own legal stuff – I was given a link to review the movie for free.  I was asked for my honest review – good or bad.  I liked it.  I get a copy of a Glen Campbell Single for my efforts – not for a favorable review.  It was favorable – because I liked it.  You know the deal-e-o.
