The Power-Based Life – A Book Review

The latest book I was sent from Book Sneeze is called The Power Based Life by Mike Flynt.

The first line of the back cover says it all “ The two greatest days in our lives are the day we’re born and the day we realize what we were born for.”

Mike Flynt is a strength trainer who realized one day that he could in fact get paid to do what he loved – work out and show others how to do the same.  He talks a lot about how you can realize your dreams by ‘strength training’ more than just your body but your mind and spirit too.

The author talks about starting from the beginning and learning the basics in whatever you are doing.  As you learn the basics you will be encouraged in what you are doing because you will succeed easier and with seemingly less effort – because you have trained yourself to do do what is needed.

The majority of his relational stories are in football but lessons are easily understood with even know knowledge of the sport so don’t be put off.

Also a big theme (obviously) is finding your Power Base.  What drives you?  What gives you strength?  I love this line early on in Chapter 3

Your attitude is the single most important aspect of who you are and the leading indicator of where you’re going.

A quick synopsis of the Mike’s twelve strategies:

  • Your Power Base – playing to your strengths
  • Mastering the Essentials
  • Cultivate a Winning Attitude
  • Visualization: See what can be
  • Belief: Defy the skeptics
  • Commitment: Move forward RELENTLESSLY
  • Know who you play for
  • Fly your flag
  • Adversity:  Turn your difficulties to your advantage
  • Compassion: Practice Radical Mercy
  • Maximize your moments
  • Sow in health, reap a longer life

By the way – Mike went back to school to play college football – when he was 59.  This book is based primarily on Christian based principals but it can easily be read and put into the daily life of any human being.  Read it- it’s worth it for the encouragement.

This book is also a lead in to his program “FIT FOR THE KING  Rebuilding The Temple of God” His group health program for good health and outreach.  You can visit his site at http://mikeflynt.com/fftk/index.html

God Bless and Give with Passion!
