About the game:
For 2-4 players, ages 12+
Wisdomantics–New King James Version (NKJV) is an interactive DVD board game for players of various faiths who desire to gain the vast wisdom of King Solomon. Wisdomantics-NKJV utilizes the proverbs of Solomon and blends chance, knowledge and strategy to create a fun experience while you learn! The game’s intent is to bring individuals together to learn how to cope with numerous situations in a fun and relaxed environment. Inside the box you’ll find 2 interactive DVDs with 400 questions, score cards, blessing cards, and more!

So the game is a board game mixed with the DVD player.  You don’t need the board game portion of it if you want but you must use a DVD player.

The board is laid out like monopoly and even comes it’s own version of “go to jail.”

The object of the game is to build your temple by collecting gold, cyprus, and cedar tiles.   The first person to build their temple is the winner.  The purpose of the game however is a bit more pointed: to challenge your knowledge of the Word and encourage you to pray. I highly recommend reading all the directions before you start playing the game.  Our family played for an extra half hour because we did not catch a vital way to get extra cards to win.  It was fine though because we had a blast laughing.  Also you should take the time to download the question tracking sheet found here.  It will help immensely.

The dvd portion of the game is in need of updates (or directions to fix if it is a tv viewing issue.)  If you take a look at question 8 that shows the question and answers, you will note that the selection arrows so not line up with the answers correctly.  This was a bit of a hardship for us for the first few minutes but we eventually got it down pretty well.  There were the occasional glitches in getting the right answer selected but we just adjusted accordingly by skipping the second chance.

There are also the occasional verse errors as in question 11 shown  to the right.

When you get an answer correct this little guy (The dude you see on the image of the board above,) sits in his throne and shouts “Hallelujah!”  After that it reads the answer and then tells you to take an advancement card and goes back to the question selection screen.  The questions selection screen takes a little getting used to as well.  I suggest playing with the FF and the next page buttons  (>>  &  >>|) on your remote.

I won’t give too many spoilers on the advancement cards and tiles on board except these two things:

1. Many of the advancement cards tell you the equivalent to “go to jail” in Monopoly.  So we were in hysterics after a while because every second to third card was go to jail. Those turns sounded like this:  “Hallelujah!  Go to Jail!”

2. If you are not comfortable offering up prayers of supplication or praise in public – you may need to adjust your game play a little.  I love that the game specifically offers up opportunities to express our thanks and worries to the Lord – On the Spot.

Anyway, the game is a great way to increase your memory of NKJV version verses.  It is fun but it does require a  DVD player.  If you don’t have one, you can’t play – sorry. Not how much I like that part of the game.  I would tend to play it more if the verses were on cards and not on DVD.  Of couse that would raise the cost of the game right 😉
